Hi. I am Abbe (abc):
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) working and writing in Raleigh, North Carolina. For over 20 years, I have treated people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mood/depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, trauma, behavioral issues, attachment issues, and learning disabilities.
I graduated with my master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While doing my course work and internship, I taught in a self-contained autism classroom. Afterward, I held a position at the University of North Carolina’s Division TEACCH program in Fayetteville, North Carolina. There I assisted in psycho-education and autism assessments, consulted with local schools and worked directly with families and individuals with ASD. From there, I worked in community mental health programs where I launched an Intensive In-Home team specializing in developmental delays, autism, and severe mental health issues.

IFS Informed Therapist.
Recently, I became a Level I Internal Family Systems (IFS) trained therapist. I am working towards my IFS certification. My therapeutic work integrates multiple theories such as TEACCH’s structured teaching, behavioral, cognitive behavioral, sensorimotor psychotherapy, dialectic behavioral strategies, expressive arts, play and solution-focus therapy. These modalities are intermixed based on the needs of my clients.
A part of me will always be a teacher. In the past, I’ve taught workshops on autism, structured teaching, and best practices for clinicians working with individuals with ASD and mental health issues. I have traveled the country lecturing on Autism and Mental Health for PESI, Inc.
When I’m not working, I’m probably sitting in a quiet dark space just thinking or reading or writing. Or I’m playing with my dog Toast, and cat Twisty.
